Today is the day, yeah my birthday, and the big 50 has arrived. But you know I still don't feel any different then I did yesterday. I don't feel like I'm over the hill, however even if I was, it seems to me that going down hill is a hell of a lot easier then going up hill.
I'm off to face the day. Have a great weekend. That's it for now. Later.
It's been a rather busy day today. Along with making the job application rounds I spent today getting ready for a yard sale. Yep, that ritualistic happening when one finally decideds it is time to thin out the amount of junk that has accumulated over the years. Or in this case, with the house going on the market and an impending move who wants to drag all this stuff around. Short post tonight but I'm off to bed so I can be up early to set this sale up. That's it for now. Later.
Oh, by the way, I seem to have had some
Naked Ladies pop up in my yard today.
Ok I'm back. I just needed a little break to kinda clear my head a little. Took a nice long drive in the countryside yesterday and that helped a lot.
What a strange summer it's been here lately. In fact these last few days it has appeared as though we've fast forwarded through summer and into fall. The temp's have been running around 15-30 degrees below what they normally are for this time of the year. And though it may be strange indeed, it has turned out to be a blessing in disguise seeing as I've killed the AC in the house as a cost cutting measure. I'm going to enjoy this while it lasts because we still have all of August to get through, and I'm sure the heat will find us once again.
Having been away for a few days you'de think I would have plenty to write about, but I can't think of much else to write at the moment. So I think I'll slip out and whip me up something to eat and get back online to pull up the help wanted ads for this area. That's it for now. Later.
Yesterday was road trip day, having had to drive my mother to a doctors appointment out of town. That is one of the drawbacks of living in a small town. If you need to see a specialist you're looking at a sixty mile drive minimum, at least around these parts you do. And I couldn't even take advantage of the change of scenery to snap some new pic's as it rained all day yesterday and is still raining as I type this.
I am now less then a week away from my birthday which is next friday. So how old will I be? Here's a hint. Let's just say this approaching birthday is the one most people dread, the one that is celebrated with decorations of black and slogans of over the hill plastered all over the place. Did you figure it out. Yep next friday I hit the big 50. In fact I would probably be dreading it myself except I've never been one to let birthdays upset me. A birthday is just a day and your age is but a number and should not dictate how you feel inside. I remember back when I was in my twenties, then the thirties went past and now the forties and with the passing of these two decades I feel no different now then I did when I was in my twenties. So I say to you youngsters(which I might dare to say is 100% of those of you who come and visit here) as time goes by you are as young or old as you allow yourself to be. It's up to you, you hold the key.
It's time for me to refresh my cup of coffee and figure out what I want to get accomplished today. Have a good weekend. That's it for now.
So I've been out pounding the pavement looking for one of those so called million new jobs our president is telling us are out there. And well, so far no luck. But I'll find something sooner or later.
It hasn't been a totally unproductive week. Yesterday I went down to the DMV, waited the traditional hour or so in line and got my drivers license renewed. It never fails, no matter what day you pick to do these kind of things, it's always the same day everyone else has choose to do the same thing.
I did take a break from the rat race of things to go wandering around and taking pic. One of the few things I have right now that helps me relax. Here are a few of them. I hope you like them.
That's it for now. Later.
I keep hearing that because of what's happened (the war) over the past year we are now safer and our freedoms are more secure. But I have to ask is this really true? Pictured above is a walkway at the local lake that you used to be able to go out on and fish or just stand and enjoy the the view of the lake. Shortly after 9/11 the barb wire barricade you see went up to keep people off the walkway in an effort to keep terrorists from possibly blowing this part of the dam. The sad part is that there's more and more of these barbed wire and concrete barricades popping up restricting our access to things we want to see or do all in the name of protecting us. Yep sure sounds like we are safer and our freedoms are more secure to me.
As if it isn't hectic enough trying to find a job again, I'm right in the middle of getting a house ready to sell. Its true what they say that you never know just how many things you accumulate over the years. Things that are considered priceless treasures one minute that are pitched into the junk pile headed for the trash the next minute.
Ok time to replenish my cup of coffee and get ready to pound the job trail.
That's it for now. Later.
There are thoughts that are bouncing around in my confused mind right now, but none that are ready to bounce from there onto this page. I do have some new photos though for your viewing, hope you enjoy them. That's it for now. Later.
Ok, so here's the update to my last post for the many sitting on pins and needles waiting to find out what happened. Oh, alright, for the maybe three or four who might be mildly curious. Well it's official, as of the end of business yesterday we're fired, kicked off the job or any other way you may choose to describe it. Yep there were no more chances for us. But the way things went down I'm believing they were gunning for this company I worked for all along. And here's what leads me to believe this. Before we even got all our equipment moved off the job the people who were firing us wanted the names and phone numbers of all of us working there so they could give them to the new company coming in and we could maybe go to work for them. Now, they just got through kicking us off the job for screwing things up and yet they want to rehire the same crew.....what's wrong with this picture.
Now here's the best one of all. About two yesterday afternoon, while we were packing our shit up, the plumbers while capping a water line had a joint on a water pipe come loose spraying water all over the place. By the time they got it under control they had flooded the second floor, first floor and basement, while also knocking out the elevators. But the plumbers were told not to worry about it because it was an act of god since it must have been a bad joint from a previous installation. Now they flood the place and force floors to have to be evacuated and they're told not to worry about it. We on the other hand broke a window and dropped a piece of pipe, neither of which disrupted the hospital in any way and we got kicked off the job. Again what's wrong with this picture!!!! I'm not trying to excuse our screw ups, but where is the fairness here. I haven't decided yet, but I'm thinking that even if this new company calls and wants to hire me I may just tell them thanks but no thanks. Just don't think I want to be involved with such a chicken shit run job. So it looks like I'm back on the job market, anyone out there hiring? That's it for now. Later.
Ever wonder what it would be like to sit on your ass under a shade tree all afternoon and get paid for it. Well, that's what we did today. Before this starts to get confusing I think I'll start at the beginning. When I started on this job it seems this company had a little history with it...which the final chapter may have been written today. Turns out we were the second crew to start this job. The first crew top to bottom was fired after an incident occurred. Appears when they started demolishing the third floor someone cut a main line supplying the hospital with oxygen. Oh, and there were people in surgery too. So we were told we needed to get this job done incident free because all the strikes had been used up. So everything was going along fine, that is until last thursday when a window was accidentally broken while throwing debris out a window into a dumpster below. So monday we were told one more incident and that may just be it for us. Guess what, yep, we had another incident this morning just before lunch. While removing a bath tub a pipe came loose and fell to the floor below penetrating the ceiling. Luckily it didn't go all the through. It was then we were issued a stop work order and now we wait. That's what we were doing sitting under that shade tree, waiting to hear our fate. It was a long boring afternoon, but at least we got paid for it. So now we wait while the bosses and bosses of bosses have meetings to determine our fate. Although we've already been told it looks like the company we work for will be kicked off the job. And well, no company no job. There is still a very very slim chance they will let us stay, we'll find out tomorrow. We are supposed to show up in the morning to either load up the company equipment and leave or go back to work. Sadly I'm not holding my breath for the latter happening.
Sitting there this afternoon I started to get a little down on myself knowing this is not what I needed right now. But hey it's one of those situations that's out of my hands. I cant change it, so I'll deal with it and move on. I've been the type who tries to believe in the old adage of if life deals you lemons then make lemonade. But I'm thinking I've had enough lemonade already, I'm ready for some champagne for a change or better yet some Crown.
That's it for now. I'll let you all know tomorrow what I find out. I'll either be lucky and still have a job or I will have been fired for the first time in my life. Later.
So yeah, the weekend was a rather nerve racking or stretching time. And though it was a weekend to forget, it wasn't without some bright spots. One bright spot was provided by my sisters grand-son. It's amazing how youngsters have a way of doing that. And he is a naturally born ham, especially if there's a cam around. Anyway my sister, mom and my brother's wife decided it would be cool to put him in character with his sword by putting a hat of pantyhose on his head. He thought this was something else and of course had to strike a pose.
It would have been ok had they stopped there. But they just kept it up till finally we got the please make them stop look.
It was kinda nice having him represent a bright spot on what was otherwise a somewhat drab weekend. That's it for now. Later.
Ok it's done and the pic's are up. Although I wasn't so sure I was going to get it done tonight. It seems that at the last minute the boss decided this would be a good day to work twelve hours. So yeah I didn't get home until seven thirty tonight. But I went right to it and got it done....yay. Click here to see the photos. You can also get there by clicking on the photo essays link to the left.
It's getting late and I still need to take my shower. Need to wash this fiberglass off of me before I scratch my skin off. We've been ripping out heating and air duct work that covered with insulation, that's how I got the fiberglass on me...in case you were wondering.
I don't know these girls in the pic, but the expression on her face was something else. That's it for now. Later.
Today really wasn't so bad, considering it was the first day back to work after four days off. In fact the day went rather smoothly. I spent most of the evening working on getting my photos posted. I'm almost there, hopefully sometime tomorrow evening. Other then that I really don't have much else to post right now. Just to let you know what I'm working on here are two examples. The first is of the band Liverpool and the second is of the fireworks display. That's it for now. Later.
The holiday weekend is on it's last day winding dow quickly and soon it will be back to things as usual. My posts were lacking over the weekend because I decided to do something different and do something. I decided to brave the large crowds and attend the hloiday festivities which ranged from a parade, carnival, live musical entertainment to the grand fireworks finale. Of course my favorite was the musical entertainment. There were I think five bands but only three that I wanted to hear. The first was the Jeff Scheetz Band, a very good band that offered up some fresh new rock. They were the opening act Saturday night for the Electric Light Orchestra. These guys were fantastic presenting us with the old favorites while mixing in some new material. The weekend concluded last night with the performance of a band called Liverpool, a Beatles cover band. They basically took you through a musical history of the Beatles complete with costume.
I guess what I'm saying in a round about way is that I surprised myself and had a good time this weekend. I had gotten to the point where holidays didn't offer up much excitement for me anymore. So yeah it was good to get out and realize I can still have some fun.
I'm in the process of putting together a sort of photo essay of the weekends activities. I'll post it as soon as I'm finished, which a take a minute or two. I've got about 250-300 photos to sort through edit and upload. Speaking of which I think I'll get started working on this project. That's it for now.
The first day of my long holiday weekend is about done. And it's rained on us off and on the entire day. Good news is the rain is supposed to clear out this evening before the festivities tomorrow.
We finished the lead removal earlier this week so yesterday was the first time we spent the entire day on demolition of the walls where we're working. I don't mind saying that I'm ready for a rest. I did learn a valuable lesson here. And that is when someone offers you a job doing dry wall removal find out their definition of dry wall. I mean to me dry wall indicates sheetrock walls and not concrete and cinder block walls. Yeah the kind that need to be knocked down with a sledge hammer and shoveled into wheelbarrows to be carried out. It's not that I'm against hard work, it just took me by surprise.
Got a surprise in the mail today. A letter from the Republican National Committee. They were saying how disappointed they were for not hearing from me to renew my membership in the RNC. That shows just how smart those little shit heads are, how the hell can I renew a membership in something I never was a member of to begin with. I wouldn't be associated with those assholes if they were the last thing on earth. Although to be fair I won't join the Democratic party either. I don't need any group, left or right, dictating to me how I should act and what I should believe in. And I sure don't need anyone telling me how I should vote.
That's about all I have to say today. Time to fix some supper and if the rain clears out I might go down to the carnival thats in town for the forth. Maybe I can get some new pictures to post. That's it for now. Later.
